Carl Kenny
I work as an independent social worker and also an independent Children’s Guardian for
Cafcass.I have worked in social care since 1990, starting in the voluntary sector and
then for the probation service. I moved to children’s services in 1993, where I have
worked continuously up to the present. I have a BSc in Psychology and also
post-graduate certificate in systemic (family)psychotherapy. I have found that these
additional qualifications and experience support my assessment work of adults and
children. I have a wide experience of practice in both public and private law
proceedings, both for the local authority, and since 2003 with Cafcass in both areas
of work. I have produced hundreds of assessments and particularly for court, and given
evidence in the FPC, County Courts and also in the High Court in support of my
assessments. Many of my assessments have been of cases with a high degree of
complexity and this is both in public and also in private law. I believe that my psychology
and psychotherapy qualifications are of particular benefit in in private law proceedings
where there is frequently a high ‘polarisation’ of positions between parties. I am able to
provide solicitor recommendations in support of my work
